Mitchell Julian “Jay” Alga Jr.

IRVINGTON—Mitchell Julian “Jay” Alga Jr. of Irvington passed away unexpectedly on June 11, 2023, at the age of 65.

Jay was born in Baltimore, Md., to Mary and Mitchell Julian Alga Sr. and grew up in Irvington. Following graduation from Lancaster High School in 1976, he attended the University of Richmond, where he earned a bachelor’s in business administration in 1980. He retired in July 2019 from the Compass Group where he served as a regional vice president.

Jay enjoyed cooking, all water activities, tennis, biking and walking, which he did every day with his faithful four-legged companion, Finn. He catered occasionally and was actively involved with the Irvington Village Improvement Association.

Jay had a wonderful sense of humor and never met a stranger. His integrity and kindness are evident in the many tributes his family has received over the past weeks. Jay’s commitment and love for his family and friends was undeniable.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Mitch Alga; his brother, Jamie Alga; and his nephew, Mitchell Sink.

He is survived by his brother, David Alga (Nan); his sister, Mary Ann Sink (Bryan); his nieces, Nadia Rogers (Kevin), Michelle Taggart (Jamison), Lindsey Dasher (Ron) and Taylor Topper (Eric); his nephews, Jonathan (Christina) and Dustin Alga; and his great nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved as his own. Jay will be dearly missed.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 23, at Grace Episcopal Church, of which he was a member, 303 South Main Street, Kilmarnock. Reception to follow.
