Motion filed seeking reduction in Hooper sentence

LANCASTER—The law team representing convicted felon John R. “Rand” Hooper of Richmond has filed a motion for sentence reduction in Lancaster County Circuit Court.

Hooper was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and failure to render aid in connection with the drowning death of Graham McCormick of Atlanta. McCormick’s body was found in Carter Creek in August 2017. He died as a result of a late night boating accident. He had been visiting Hooper and other friends that weekend at the Hooper’s home in Irvington.

In May 2022—over five years after the accident—Norfolk Judge Charles E. Poston sentenced Hooper to six years in prison for the role he played in the death of his lifelong friend. The sentence included 15 years on both charges with nine suspended….
