Native plant group to host marsh program

Maeve Coker will present “Virginia’s Freshwater Tidal Marshes: A Coastal Gem.

The Northern Neck Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society on Thursday, April 17, will host a free public program at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock. The session will begin with light refreshments and social time at noon, the program will follow at 12:15 p.m.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist Maeve Coker will present “Virginia’s Freshwater Tidal Marshes: A Coastal Gem,” reported vice president Kevin Howe.

Tidal freshwater marshes occur below the fall line of coastal rivers. They are influenced by the tidal cycles but with minimum salinity…..
