New Kent shakes Lancaster in golf opener

Dillon Mickles shot a par 72 at Golden Eagle Golf Course in Irvington last Thursday to lead visiting New Kent High School over Lancaster High School in both teams’ season opening match.

NKHS had a team score of 313, 41 strokes better than host LHS with a 354. New Kent is a Class 3 team in the Bay Rivers District while Lancaster is Class 1.

Kyle Diggs shot a four-over-par 76, Brett Ferry shot an 80 and Cayden Sheaffer an 85 as the four scorers for NKHS.

Colin Payne shot an 83 and Tyler Brent an 84 to lead LHS. Leyton Dew shot a 90 and Isaac Hernandez a 97 to complete the four scorers for LHS. Also playing in the top six for the Red Devils were Pierson Long and Ashby Russell.

LHS will host Rappahannock today, August 10, in an 18-hole match with a 1 p.m. tee-off time.
