New two-person exhibit will open October 30 at Tappahannock Art Guild

Creative works by Karen Doyle and John Latell will be featured at the Tappahannock Art Guild in November.

John Latell and Karen Doyle will present a two-person show October 30 through November 21 at the Tappahannock Art Guild (TAG), 200 Prince Street, Tappahannock. An opening reception will be held  from 5-7 p.m. October 30.

Latell will show contemporary sculptures in wood, metal and paint using various processes including casting, forging, dyeing, carving and enameling. These are deliberate forms borne from experiences in solitude and with loved ones. “The work is about the arising of form and the reconciliation of conditions,” said Latell.

Doyle, a multimedia artist, will show fiber art using many types of wool from local flocks. This body of work explores the ancient art and craft of wet felting wool into fabric. Her love of botany has led her to dye with plants she has foraged locally and from her treks to the Northwest territory. This exhibition of fiber art uses form to study structure, shape and texture of many different types of wool.

Latell studied sculpture at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond before going to Pittsburgh in the mid 90s for creative work in local industrial sites. He returned to Virginia more than 20 years ago and established Wicomico Forge Gardenworks and Northern Neck Railings and Gates as businesses that support his fine art work. Located in Weems, he can be reached at wicomicoforgejohnl@gmail.com…..
