Merry Point Ferry is closed
LANCASTERS—Service on the Merry Point Ferry in Lancaster County has been suspended until further notice.
The ferry vessel’s engine requires repairs, reported Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) public affairs manager Kelly Hannon May 2. Travelers are encouraged to check 511Virginia for real-time information on the ferry’s operational status.
The Merry Point Ferry is a free ferry service operated by the VDOT. Located on scenic byway, Merry Point and Ottoman Ferry roads, it crosses the Western Branch of the Corrotoman River.
Dirt Bridge Road is open
TOPPING— Dirt Bridge Road in Middlesex County reopened May 1 to through traffic Greys Point Road Regent Road after Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews finished an emergency repair project.
Dirt Bridge Road closed to through traffic on April 4 due to a drainage pipe failure, reported public affairs manager Kelly Hannon. Crews installed two new concrete drainage pipes. Each pipe is 40 feet long, and measures 48 inches in diameter. New pipe headwalls also were installed.
Motorists will encounter a gravel travel surface in the work zone on a temporary basis, said Hannon. Crews will return within the next two weeks to pave the work zone area.
An average of 3,300 vehicles a day travel on Dirt Bridge Road between Greys Point and Regent roads.
