The 2025 Lancaster High School record-breaking volleyball season came to an end on Tuesday, November 18, but not without a fight.

“We did what we talked about doing, leaving it all on the floor. No regrets,” said LHS sophomore hitter Lexi VerMeer of the Lady Devils 3-2 loss to Middlesex in the Class 1 state tournament semifinal. “We went in thinking we were going to have to give 100%.”
Middlesex, which had gone without losing a set through the playoffs—including two Tidewater District matches and three Region 1A matches—had swept Lancaster, 3-0, pretty much with ease in the regional championship on November 11. The Lady Chargers went on to lose in three sets to Giles County in the state championship on Saturday, November 22.
The state semifinal in Saluda, which was the fourth meeting between LHS and MHS this season, was shaping up early to be a repeat of the regional final. Lancaster spotted the Chargers the first two sets then clawed back to win two and bring up a….
