WHITE STONE—At approximately 9:30 a.m. Friday, September 4, Virginia State Police (VSP) responded to a multi-vehicle crash on the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge above the Rappahannock River in Lancaster County.

The preliminary investigation indicates a 2015 Chevrolet City Express work van was traveling eastbound when it crossed the double yellow centerline and struck a westbound 2013 Peterbilt 384 truck, reported VSP Division I public information officer Sgt. Jessica B. Shehan. The Chevrolet then sideswiped a westbound 2024 Ford F-250 before overturning onto its driver’s side. A 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche traveling behind the van struck debris from the crash and sustained damage.

The driver of the Chevrolet van, Zachary Jones, 29, of Hudgins was extricated from the vehicle and flown to a hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Peterbilt, James Conley, 62, of Heathsville was transported to a local hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

The drivers of the Ford F-250 and Chevrolet Avalanche were evaluated by emergency medical personnel at the scene and were not injured.

The crash resulted in a hazardous materials response, said Sgt. Shehan. The Virginia Department of Emergency Management and Virginia Department of Environmental Quality were notified, and crews remained on scene conducting cleanup operations for several hours.
