Two Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) ferries have been taken out of service in the Northern Neck to secure the vessels ahead of anticipated inclement weather, according to public affairs manager Kelly Hannon.
The Merry Point and Sunnybank ferries are cable-guided vessels. Each ferry requires one crew member to operate. Ferry operators are employed by a VDOT contractor.
The Merry Point Ferry, connecting Merry Point and Ottoman Ferry roads crosses the Western Branch of the Corrotoman River in Lancaster County.
The Sunnybank Ferry, connecting Sunny Bank and Ferry roads, crosses the Little Wicomico River in Northumberland County.
