The Northern Neck History Fair recently celebrated its 22nd year with an awards presentation at Historic Christ Church & Museum. Since 2002, the Foundation for Historic Christ Church (FHCC) has hosted this annual competition.
Local elementary students enter by creating projects on an event, person or cultural development related to Virginia from 1607-1789, a period that is part of the students’ Virginia studies curriculum, reported FHCC executive director Robert J. Teagle. Chesapeake Bank, Connemara Corporation and Anna’s Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria of Kilmarnock help sponsor the event.
Shannon Wilson’s “Courtship & Marriage of Powhatan Indians in Early 17th Century Virginia” won first place and $100 courtesy of Chesapeake Bank.
Grant McCormick’s “The Starving Time” earned second….
