Northern Neck Orchestra musicians are off to summer camp, with strings attached

While most folks pack insect repellent, sunscreen and oceans of calamine lotion, these summer campers take along violins, violas and cellos.

All are string players in the Northern Neck Orchestra returning to their favorite camp, Play Week Virginia, an adult amateur chamber music workshop held on the campus of Washington and Lee University in Lexington.

The orchestra’s musicians participating this summer are Sandy Byrd, violin; Robert Rubinstein, violin; Alice Rubinstein, viola; Helen Quinby, cello; and Nancy Wilson, cello. Byrd and Wilson also are members of the orchestra’s board of directors.

The program provides adult amateur musicians an opportunity to expand their musical horizons through a week of concentrated ensemble playing and coaching from the faculty of professionals.
