Northern Neck Wood Boat School progresses

CLARAVILLE—The community built the shed so the students could build the boats.

This time last year, the Northern Neck Wooden Boat School was hoping and planning for a new building. Thanks to the diligence of co-founders David Clark and Katie Wilkins and a cadre of volunteers, the group will hold a ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m. Monday, June 22, for its new building.

The bow shed is directly next to Northumberland Middle School, 175 Academic Lane, Claraville. “The intention is to house our summer and after-school boat building programs,” said Wilkins, who has taught boat-building in the classroom for many years.

Thirteen students in middle or high school attended a summer boat-building camp beginning….
