Northumberland accelerates past Lancaster in district final, 67-52

It was hard to believe mere bragging rights and a trophy were the only things at stake in last Wednesday night’s Northern Neck District tournament final between Lancaster and Northumberland.

Both of the varsity boys teams hit the floor at full throttle and didn’t tap the brake until the final buzzer when NHS celebrated a 67-52 win over the host Red Devils. In fact, the only thing that slowed them down was a 30-minute injury time out that shifted momentum briefly in Lancaster’s favor.

The championship game, however, didn’t change either team’s postseason rankings…
