Northumberland High School produced a state champion in wrestling and Lancaster High had a runner-up at last weekend’s Group 1A tournament in Salem.
The Red Devils took five grapplers to the two-day Virginia High School League championships at Salem Civic Center. Three of them made a podium appearance.
Lancaster’s Domonique Veney brought home silver in the 138 weight class after going 3-1 and losing by decision, 8-0, to four-time state champion Josh Wynn of Rural Retreat.
Veney is a junior, two-time state qualifier, who finished fourth at 132 last year…
