HEATHSVILLE—The Northumberland County Circuit Court convened Tuesday, September 23, with the Hon. R. Michael McKenney presiding.
James A. Brown IV of Champlain pleaded guilty to two counts of distributing/selling Schedule I/II drugs for profit. He was sentenced to 10 years with eight years and eight months suspended. He faces $1,135 in costs and was placed on 10 years of unsupervised probation. Two additional charges of distributing/selling Schedule I/II drugs for profit were nolle prossed.
In the case of Travon M. El of Montross, charged with manufacturing/distributing Schedule I/II drugs, his third or more offense, a jury trial was set for February 24.
In the case of Kevin M. Kelly of Callao, charged with assault and battery of a family member, his third or more offense, and abduction by force or intimidation, a trial was set for February 10.
In the case of Maurice C. Veney of Spotsylvania, charged with possession of a weapon as a violent felon, possession of a weapon or ammunition as a violent felon and receiving or aiding in the concealment of a stolen firearm, the case was continued to October 28. Veney also faces a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed firearm.
In the case of Andrew W. Yoho of Powhatan, charged with probation violation on a felony offense, the case was continued to October 14.
Reminder, those charged with alleged crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
