HEATHSVILLE—The Northumberland County Circuit Court convened Tuesday, July 21, with the Hon. John S. Martin presiding.
In the case of Crystal F. Kappel of Heathsville, charged with two counts of construction fraud by advanced pay of over $1,000, the case was continued to September 8. Kappel also faces a misdemeanor charge of unlawful acts per business regulations.
In the case of Michael S. Kappel of Heathsville, charged with three counts of construction fraud by advanced pay of over $1,000, two counts of unlawful acts per business regulations, his third or more offense within 36 months, and obtaining money under false pretenses totaling more than $1,000, the case was continued to September 8. Kappel also faces a misdemeanor charge of unlawful acts per business regulations.
In the case of John J. Makowelski of Champlain, a destruction of property with intent with damages valued at over $1,000 was concluded by Nolle Prosequi. He also pleaded guilty to an amended misdemeanor charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle. The original charge was felony larceny by unauthorized use of a vehicle. He was sentenced to twelve months with twelve months suspended. He faces $257 in costs.
In the case of Lachoane A. Palmer of Heathsville, three counts of regulation violations as a tier III sex offender were nolle prossed.
Tavon R. Thompson pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of Schedule I/II substances with intent to manufacture and distributing/selling Schedule I/II drugs for profit. He was sentenced to five years with two years and nine months suspended. He faces $2,145 in costs and $1,400 in restitution. He also will be placed on supervised probation for five years upon release.
In the case of Aaron M. Sullivan, charged with three counts of rape to a victim ages 13 or younger and three counts of sodomy to a victim ages 13 or younger, a status hearing was continued to July 28.
In the case of Christopher N. Scanlan of Hague, charged with possession of Schedule I/II drugs, a trial was set for September 8.
In the case of Yussra A. Hammoudeh of Heathsville, charged with three counts of identity theft causing financial losses of more than $200, two counts of other forgery/uttering, and grand larceny, a trial was set for November 17.
In the case of Russell E. Gordon Jr. of Callao, charged with carnal knowledge of a 13-14 year old victim without force, a status hearing was set for August 4.
