HEATHSVILLE—The Northumberland County Circuit Court convened Tuesday, September 15, with the Hon. John S. Martin presiding.
Eddie L. Gallagher of Mechanicsville pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated, his third within five to 10 years. He was sentenced to five years with four years and 274 days suspended. Gallagher also pleaded guilty to driving on a suspended license. He was sentenced to five years with four years suspended and faces fines of $1,000 and costs of $1,825. He will serve five years of supervised probation upon release.
In the case of Spurgeon D. Gaskins of Montross, a charge of entering a school after being convicted as a tier III sex offender was dismissed.
Glenn M. Hogan of Lottsburg pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated, his third, and diving on a suspended/revoked license. He was sentenced to five years with four years and eight months suspended. His operator license will be suspended indefinitely and he faces $1,000 in fines and $1,593.76 in costs. He will serve five years of supervised probation upon release.
In the case of Johnny M. Smithart of Heathsville, charged with three counts of rape of spouse by force, two counts of sexual penetration using an object by force upon his spouse, and forcible sodomy upon his spouse, a status hearing was set for October 13. Smithart also faces two misdemeanor charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
In the case of Bradley P. Townshend of Warsaw, charged with two counts of copying, selling, etc. of child pornography, possession of child pornography, his second or more offense, and possession of child pornography, a trial was set for December 8.
