The annual meeting of the Northumberland County Historical Society will take place at 10:30 a.m. July 30 at the Tavern Meeting Building, Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville.
The morning session, after a short business meeting, will begin with Dr. Carl Lounsbury, and his presentation of “Court Day in Colonial Virginia,” reported Virginia Burgess. His discussion will include what happened in and around the buildings at the courthouse in Heathsville during Court Days. Images such as the early courthouse and Hughletts Tavern will be offered.
Dr. Lounsbury received his doctorate in American studies from George Washington University and is an adjunct professor of history at William & Mary. He also leads the National Institute of American Studies & Democracy’s Material Culture and Public History Program….
