Northumberland edges Lancaster, 8-7, in extra innings; Devils down Eagles, 9-4

After falling, 8-7, to Northumberland in extra innings in a Northern Neck District opener last week, the Red Devils rebounded to pick up a 9-4 win over Westmoreland in varsity baseball and improve to 1-1 in the league.

Hopewell also edged LHS, 2-0, to drop Lancaster to 6-3 overall.

Cameron Minor hit a one-out single to drive in Taylor Reeves for the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday, April 9, in Heathsville.

Lancaster, which put two runs on the board in its first at bat on two walks, a single and double, pushed two more across in the fifth and another two in the sixth to carry a 6-4 lead into the seventh.

Toni Thomas led with a single, moved around on a walk by Josh Woolard and the Devils loaded the bases on a base hit by Creston Saunders when Taylor Davis hit a fielder’s choice grounder to shortstop to score Thomas. Braden George’s one-out sacrifice fly to centerfield drove in Woolard for a 4-2 LHS lead before the Indians got out of the inning.

Brooks Parker hit a one-out double in the top of the sixth….
