HEATHSVILLE—The Northumberland board of supervisors at a special meeting on Wednesday, May 18, heard details on a proposed digital radio upgrade and joining the Upper Middle Peninsula Regional Radio System with Essex, King and Queen, Mathews and Richmond counties.
Lancaster County also has expressed interest but has not formally committed. According to Lancaster county administrator Don Gill, the board of supervisors will discuss the matter at its June 30 meeting.
Meanwhile in Northumberland, Sheriff Johnny Beauchamp and Wayne Duff of radio vendor L3Harris outlined the multi-million dollar project. According to Beauchamp, the county has been using a Motorola VHF system since 2015.
