Northumberland residents come out opposed to land use tax rate changes

HEATHSVILLE—The courtroom in Northumberland County was packed on Tuesday, March 24, as concerned landowners, mostly farmers, expressed opposition to any changes in the land use taxation rates during a special called meeting by the board of supervisors.

According to Commissioner of the Revenue Todd Thomas 57,337 acres within the county are enrolled in the land use program. He has previously said it was “costing the county about four cents on the tax rate (currently $0.74 cents per $100) to preserve natural resources in the county and….
