Northumberland school board adds swim team to high school sports roster

CLARAVILLE—Northumberland County Public Schools (NCPS) are back in session for the 2023-24 academic year. School officials on Monday, August 21, reviewed several new programs, facilities and events, including the addition of a varsity swimming program.

Athletic director Theresa Rock shared a proposal with the school board detailing related expenses and logistics to create a swim team.

According to Rock, swim would be a winter sport from November-February. The season would include four regular meets, one regional competition and one state championship.

Transportation would be required to and from practice at the YMCA twice a week during the season in addition to the transportation needed for competition.

Rock said the Northern Neck Family YMCA is willing to partner with NCPS to provide pool facilities for practices and home meets for $1,000….
