HEATHSVILLE—Northumberland supervisors on Thursday, October 10, created the position of county director of general services and authorized staff to begin advertising immediately to fill the position.
The 3-2 decision came with support from board members Ronald Jett, Joseph Self and Richard Haynie. They indicted a director of general services could help the county achieve its goals more quickly.
Thomas Tomlin and James Long voted against creating the position. Long said he would rather hire an assistant county administrator. Tomlin said hiring of an additional staff member should wait until the county’s next budget cycle.
“I am not going to support this. I think this should be considered as part of the general budget discussion because I think some of this load would be taken off the county administrator if we had a full time EMS chief. Some of what Mr. Tadlock has to deal with are EMS issues.”
