Panthers bump Red Devils, 6-3, in quarterfinals; fall to Raiders, 1-0, Class 1 state baseball final

After finishing as the Region 1A runner-up, the Lancaster Red Devils made an early exit in the Class 1 state baseball tournament, losing to Rappahannock County in the quarterfinals.

The Panthers struck early, scoring two runs on three singles in their first at bat, and went on to beat LHS, 6-3, last Tuesday in Washington.

Lancaster’s two post-season losses came to the eventual state champion, Richmond County’s Rappahannock Raiders in the regional final, and the state runner-up Rappahannock County. The Raiders and Panthers met in last Saturday’s state final in Salem, with the Raiders winning a pitching duel, 1-0, in the ninth inning. The Richmond County team earned a berth….
