COLES POINT—Parker Preston Trader died Wednesday, July 29, 2026. He was 77 years old.
Born and raised in the Northern Neck at Coles Point in Westmoreland County, Mr. Trader always loved the outdoors. He was an avid sailor and loved the Chesapeake Bay. He and his wife lived aboard their sailboat for several months and cruised the International Waterway. He was a member of Tidewater Oyster Growers Association (TOGA) and grew oysters as a hobby.
He was retired from AT&T as an environmental tech. He also built and contracted several homes in the Chesapeake area. He attended Chowan University, VCU and took environmental courses at VMI and Virginia Tech.
Mr. Trader loved playing guitar. He supported environmental organizations including Greenpeace, the Sierra Club, Potomac Conservatory, Chesapeake Bay Foundation and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Michelle Trader; daughter, Carly Wong (Jason) of Leesburg; two sons, Matthew Paul Trader of Mechanicsville and Michael Christopher Trader of Key West, Florida; his brother, Lee Trader; grandchildren, Quinton, Addison and Cooper; and his four beloved cats.
Parker Trader was a long time member of Yeocomico Episcopal Church, Cople Parish. It was Mr. Trader’s wishes to have a small, simple graveside service, so in lieu of flowers, please donate to an environmental preservation organization aligned with his beliefs.
