IRVINGTON—We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Patrick Henry Sullivan, 82, on January 14, 2025. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1942 and grew up in the Milwaukee suburbs.
He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Nancy Mclaughlin; and his son, Alexander.
He was predeceased by his parents; and his brother, James.
Pat graduated from Marquette University and earned a doctorate in mechanical engineering at The Queen’s University in Belfast, Ireland. After graduate school, Pat returned to the Midwest and began designing engines.
Following a decade of successes in his career, Pat returned to Milwaukee to help his ailing mother. While taking care of her, Pat realized his long-term goal of becoming an entrepreneur and started his own business. More importantly, during that time, he also met and married the love of his life, Nancy.
Pat and Nancy later moved to Northern Virginia to be closer to family and business connections and it was there that their son, Alexander McLaughlin Sullivan, was born.
Pat continued to work as an independent business owner and for the Federal government until his retirement in 2016 to the Northern Neck.
Pat Sullivan’s life was full and successful, and he will always be remembered for that. But what his friends and family will most remember is his kindness, his unfailing generosity, his great sense of humor and his nearly encyclopedic memory of history, limericks, books, you name it. He was a gifted musician and could fix anything.
Whenever one was in a room with Pat, there was always laughter, and he kept careful watch that everyone had what they needed. His loss has left his family and friends bereft.
There will be a celebration of Patrick’s life in the spring to honor and remember him.
