OPHELIA—Peggy Showalter, a native of Northumberland County, passed away November 11, after a long illness.
She was retired, but previously had been a professional gardener in the Northern Neck. Prior to moving back to the Northern Neck, she was the marketing manager for the Holiday Inn in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Peggy grew up in Bogey Neck, the daughter of the late Wilburn and Ina Fuller. She attended Wicomico Elementary School and graduated from Northumberland High School in 1966. She cherished her memories of having grown up on the Great Wicomico River.
Peggy was an avid gardener, a crafts person and collector of sea glass and stamps. She loved travel and enjoyed simple pleasures in life, being with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Gordon Showalter of Ophelia; her brother, Henry Fuller (Patty) of Lara; a niece, Amber Morgan of Virginia Beach; a nephew, Gabriel Fuller of Texas; several great nieces and nephews; and her friend of 69 years, Gwen Keane.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur Fuller.
Peggy was dearly loved by many and will be remembered for her great sense of humor, her interest in people, her love of nature and compassion for kitties. She will be missed by her cat, Doodles. Contributions honoring Peggy may be made to the Northumberland County Animal Shelter or the Northern Neck Partners for Pets.
There will be a celebration of life to remember Peggy in the Spring. If interested in attending send email to keanegwen@gmail.com.
