Phyllis Karen Jakobsen

WICOMICO CHURCH—Our friend, Phyllis Karen Jakobsen, of Wicomico Church, died March 21.

She was born on Oct 27,1944, in Queens, New York, the daughter of Svend Bulow Jakobsen and Anna Magdaiena Stankovich. She was a loving sister to William, who survives her, and to Dorothy, Irene and Rita, now deceased.

Karen graduated from Baruch University in New York City, and moved to California in the 1970s. There, she met her husband Claus Jakobsen—they were introduced because they had the same last name.

For many years, Karen was a claims adjuster for various insurance companies both in California and Pennsylvania. She concluded her professional career as a science teacher at Lancaster Middle School in the Northern Neck.

After her retirement she was active as a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program for Wicomico Parish Church.

Besides her parents and siblings, Karen was predeceased by her husband, Claus. Their life together was rich and varied and included, among other things, a love of pets, motorcycling, and foreign travel.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Wicomico Parish Church.

Memorial tributes may be made to Wicomico Parish Church, P.O. Box 70, Wicomico Church, VA 22579; or to Friends of Northumberland County Animal Shelter (FNCAS), P.O. Box 603, Burgess, VA 22432.

Safe travels, dear Karen.
