Pier dedicated to legacy of Madison Boyd

KILMARNOCK—An educational pier and demonstration oyster garden at Camp Kekoka was dedicated to the late Madison Boyd on Saturday, August 31, to honor his legacy as a waterman and steward of the environment.

The collaborative effort was led by the Tidewater Oyster Gardeners Association (TOGA) with help from the Alexandria Police Camp, the YMCA, the Boyd family and a number of sponsors. Since its completion earlier this summer, the pier on Pitmans Cove off Indian Creek has already allowed hundreds of youth to experience nature.

According to TOGA secretary Carl Zulick, the completion of the pier was a long time coming. Zulick said the pier was an idea of Boyd’s….
