‘Pirates on the Bay’ is in final stages of production

“Pirates on the Bay,” a documentary covering the golden age of piracy on Chesapeake Bay, is in the final stages of production. It is slated for a late September premier at Compass Cinema 6, 100 Entertainment Drive, in Irvington.

The film, produced by 26th Street Media of Richmond and benefiting the Kilmarnock Museum, features historians and researchers who reveal some local and regional pirate activity. Timothy Manley, executive director of the Essex County Museum in Tappahannock, is interviewed about a pirate captain named Pughman, who terrorized local shipping on the Rappahannock River.

The pirate captain was cornered by local militia in a cove near present day Port Royal and killed.
