HEATHSVILLE—Referring to ongoing erosion damage and a recent fire at the beleaguered Coronal Energy Essex Solar Center in Essex County, the Northumberland County Planning Commission on June 17 continued work on possible revisions to a solar energy facility ordinance to ensure the same problems do not occur in Northumberland.
The project in question has been involved in compliance issues virtually from the beginning. Both Essex County and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) found problems with the erosion and sediment controls and wet weather made the problems even worse. According to the DEQ, they made 23 site visits and issued four notices of violations.
