Planners recommend CIP revisions to accommodate school plans

LANCASTERThe Lancaster planning commission commission held a public hearing August 26 on two additions to the capital improvement plan (CIP) for fiscal year 2021, which started July 1.

Back in April, when you made your recommendations of the fiscal year 2021-25 capital improvements to the board of supervisors, all the issues related to renovations to the new schools had been pushed out to fiscal year 2022 because the school board had reconvened the school facilities committee to revisit earlier proposals,” said county administrator Don Gill. “The school board made a recommendation in June for a revised CIP which included two items: the renovation of the middle school into an elementary school for K though 6 students at $13.1 million and the new construction project for a combination middle school and high school at $55.3 million.”

Responding to commissioner Ty Brent’s question regarding any changes since the schools first presented the new capital requests, superintendent Dan Russell said, “The facilities committee has met, but we do not have a recommendation for the new school that’s gone before the school board yet.”
