
The eighth Plein Air Unleashed painting event by Allure Art will be held April 24-29 in Middlesex County.
This annual six-day event is one of the largest gatherings of plein air painters in the state each year, featuring over 30 professional fine artists from across Virginia and Maryland, said event coordinator Jeff Cherry.
The artists will spend the week in the Middle Peninsula painting the beautiful scenery “en plein air.” This “en plein air” method is most often associated with the famous impressionist painters like Monet and Renoir, although it was started before the impressionists and practiced in many other art movements. These artists who took their easels out into the countryside realized that they could more accurately represent the colors and the light by painting in nature.
Although painting outdoors took considerably more effort and created new challenges, the results were worth the trouble, as they found paintings done on location came alive, said Cherry.
