Plungers and sponsors have two days to raise funds for annual event

The Camp Kekoka Polar Bear is resting up for the big plunge on Saturday. “Don’t let the unseasonably warm weather keep you away, register today,” chants the Camp Kekoka Polar Bear.

The annual YMCA Camp Kekoka Polar Bear Plunge will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, January 27, at YMCA/APC Camp Kekoka, 1083 Boys Camp Road, Kilmarnock.

“It’s not too late to register to take the plunge or to sponsor a plunger,” said camp executive Cassie Leichty. “All proceeds benefit camper scholarships. Please help us give the life changing experience of Camp Kekoka to every child.”

Check in will begin at 10 a.m. and plungers will hit the water at 11 a.m. After the plunge, participants and sponsors are invited to warm up with hot soup, hot chocolate and other snacks while they enjoy a fun awards ceremony, she said.

Plungers are requested to raise at least $100 through sponsorships among family, friends and co-workers. To register to plunge or to sponsor a plunger, go to ymcacampkekoka.org, or call Leichty, 435-3616.
