Polar Plunge and Chili Cook-Off slated Feb. 18

The 2017 Polar Plunge and Chili Cook-Off to support the Middlesex Family YMCA will be held at 10 a.m. February 18, at the waterfront near the Urbanna Town Marina.

All ages are welcome to test their body’s tolerance to the cold water of Urbanna Creek. Special prizes will be awarded for costume, group costumes and the Something Different Award.

Register at peninsulaymca.org/news/polarplungeandchilicookoff, or call 316-9191, and for the cook off at urbanna.com/chili-cook-off.

Following the plunge, the Chili Cook-Off will start immediately in the parking lot beside Something Different restaurant on Virginia Street in Urbanna. There will be a DJ, craft beer, wine and chili of all types. The event will end at 4 p.m. with final judging. Heated tent and burn barrels will be onsite to keep everyone toasty warm. There is no charge for Chili Cook-Off amateurs and a $100 charge for professionals.

“When you donate to the YMCA, you make your community better through programs focused on youth development, healthy living  and social responsibility. Help us provide opportunity, for all. Jump in!” said YMCA branch executive Rosabeth Kissman.
