REEDVILLE—Proceeds of $6,220 will be donated to a Gloucester waterman’s family after a raffle sponsored by the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum came to a close.
Mike Fontaine donated a large framed copy of his oyster-dredging photograph, “Pot Of Gold,” to get the raffle under way about a month ago. He was moved by the story of Taylor Mason. After her husband Peyton’s passing in June, she took on all aspects of running the couple’s young business, the Virginia Oyster Company. She has been working on their oyster boat as well as overseeing the land-side processing facility, all while raising their two young daughters.
Mason spoke from the heart to the hundreds of people at the museum’s annual Oyster Roast on Saturday, November 15, where the winning tickets were drawn.
