The RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock, recently announced special events for May.
All About the Waterman, an exhibit celebrating the waterman featuring works by members in a variety of media, will open May 1 and continue through May 26, reported Barbara Pulling of the communications committee.
A First Friday Art Reception, from 5 to 7 p.m. May 4, will showcase the exhibit. The public is invited to visit the center, meet exhibiting artists and enjoy light refreshments, said Pulling.
Upcoming workshops will include:
• May 9 through 11, Get Out! Plein Air Painting Workshop, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The instructor will be Brenda Sylvia. Participants of all levels will paint outside, weather permitting and learn to simplify their paintings and work quickly while still capturing the essence of a place.
• May 16 through 19, Abstract Workshop, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The instructor will be Pat Dews, known for capturing the abstract essence of nature. She will show that with the simplest tools, less can become more.
