Rappahannock girls edge West Point, 44-41, in Region 1A semifinal

Candace Slaw finished with 21 points and scored 10 in the fourth quarter last Thursday to help the Lady Raiders overcome a third-quarter deficit and earn a spot in the Region 1A girls basketball championship.

Rappahannock opened the fourth with a 7-2 run to tie the game and go on to edge host West Point, 44-41, in the regional semifinal. First-place Mathews beat fourth-place Northumberland 76-11 in the other semifinal to set up a Mathews-Rappahannock championship game. Rappahannock was the region’s third seed and upset second-place West Point in the Pointers’ home gym.
