Rappahannock High School wins state soccer championship

The Northern Neck District produced a state champion and two runners-up during the 2021 spring sports season.

The Rappahannock Raiders claimed the best in the state title for Class 1 soccer last week while Rappahannock’s softball and Essex High’s baseball team both ended their seasons as the second best teams in the state.


The host Raiders defeated Galax, 6-5, in a shootout to claim the state championship before a home crowd in Warsaw last Wednesday.

The game was tied 2-2 at the end of regulation and overtime period to force a penalty kick shootout. The win capped a 13-0-1 season for the Raiders, who advanced to the state final with a 6-0 semifinal win…
