Rappahannock High wins golf championship

Rappahannock High School’s Reed Thorne shot a 4-over-par 75 as the individual medalist to lead the Raiders to the championship in the Region 1A tournament at Hobbs Hole Golf Course in Tappahannock Monday.

Rappahannock’s Nathan King shot a 78, Josh White, 81, and Sydney DeShazio, 83, for a team score of 317. The Raiders were 14 strokes better than runner-up Essex, which finished with a 331. Both Rappahannock and Essex will advance as teams to the Class 1A/2A state championship tournament October 8-9 at Lonesome Pine Golf Club in Big Stone Gap.
