The River Counties Community Foundation (RCCF) recently announced more than $1.4 million in grants to 63 organizations serving people in Lancaster, Middlesex and Northumberland counties. This is the third year that RCCF’s annual grantmaking has exceeded $1 million.
“The foundation is making a concerted effort to hear from people in every community about the needs that they are seeing,” said director Lincoln Boykin. “I have spent the last year meeting with community members and nonprofit leaders about the greatest needs in each of the three counties and we are using those conversations to guide our community impact grantmaking.”
RCCF provides Community Impact Grants annually to organizations working for positive change in five key focus areas: community vibrancy, economic prosperity, educational success, environmental stewardship and health and wellness. Within those focus areas, this year’s grants are aimed at addressing some of the most pressing needs that arose from Boykin’s conversations, including workforce development, workforce housing, transportation and access to physical and mental-health care.
Among the organizations receiving grants from a total of $1,484,016 awarded in 2024:
• Addy’s Colors received support to continue to provide free mental-health services for children with chronic medical conditions, developmental disabilities and trauma, as well as their families.
• Friends of the Rappahannock received support for the expansion of oyster-reef restoration efforts in the Rappahannock River and its tributaries through funding of an oyster-restoration specialist position and materials needed to provide bivalve habitats.
• Friends of Urbanna Museum and Parks received support for the restoration of the historic James Mills Scottish Factor Store….
