Red Devils boys set the pace for Class 1 boys at Region A meet, girls place fifth

For the second consecutive year, the Lancaster High School boys team has emerged as the best Class 1 indoor team in Region A. The Red Devils finished as the runner-up behind Class 2 Bruton in the Region 1A/2A combined track and field championships February 14 in Hampton.

The Williamsburg-based Panthers scored 144 points to repeat as the boys team champion, while the Devils came in second among 10 teams with 115. Bruton scored a double victory at the indoor meet at Boo Williams Sports Complex, winning the girls meet with 115.5 points.

Mathews had the next best finish among Class 1 schools in the boys meet, placing fourth with 68 points. Class 2 Poquoson was third with 103 points.

Northampton had the best finish in the girls meet with 72 points for fourth place. Lancaster was fifth with 62.5. Prince Edward County was the runner-up with 106 and Poquoson third, 93. There were 12 scoring girls teams.

Lancaster will send 19 athletes to compete in 14 events at the Class 1/2 combined state girls and boys championships February 28-29 at Liberty University. Many of those….
