Imagine if you would, that you volunteer for a local fundraiser and the work leaves you with the hair on your arms and eyebrows singed; burnt off. It’s called “open fire roasting,” a traditional and delicious way to cook oysters in the shell.
Vincent Haynie has a good sense of humor as he describes the extreme heat along with all that goes into preparing and roasting oysters for this successful event. Over 1,000 tickets are sold annually for the biggest fundraiser benefiting The Reedville Fishermen’s Museum (RFM). More tickets could be sold, but the number is limited to ensure a quality event.
Vincent says he has been helping out for decades but somehow has become the point of contact in preparing the oysters over….
