The community still has time to enjoy the maritime exhibits, the classic boats on display and the model trains running at the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum, 504 Main Street, Reedville, before it closes for the season on Friday, December 27.
Museum hours will be 11 a.m.-4 p.m., except Christmas Day, December 25. The trains will be running from 10 a.m.-noon Thursday, December 18, and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays, December 20 and 27.
The museum will sponsor a movie or speaker in January, February and March 2026, reported public relations volunteer Tina McCloud. Each special event will start at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Fairfields Volunteer Fire Department, 119 Main Street, Reedville.
On January 5, the “The Sinking of the Fenwick Island” will be shown. This 1968 tragedy off the coast of North Carolina involved a menhaden boat with a local crew of 14.
On February 2, a book talk will feature Tom Briggs, author of War on the Inland Sea, and author Susan Swift and illustrator Heather Cockrell of The ABCs of Oystering on the Chesapeake Bay.
On March 3, a book talk will feature Joseph W. Smith, author of Menhaden.
The museum will reopen April 4, the same day as the Easter in Reedville celebration.
