Rev. Lee Scripture and Phillip Harrison recognized during NHS sports assembly

Northumberland High School (NHS) recognized two members of the Scripture family last week during its annual spring athletic awards ceremony.

Rev. Lee Scripture was honored for his many years of covering Northumberland sports as a newspaper reporter and his grandson, Phillip Harrison, was honored as a former NHS athlete who excelled at the college level, reported Janet Harrison.

NHS coach Eddie Barnes recalled the year he first came to Northumberland, in 1983, and an individual he had met that year. To ensure there was no question about who he was talking about, Barnes shed his sweat pants to reveal walking shorts and blaze red socks, a trademark outfit of Scripture’s.
