
PROVIDENCE FORGE—Richard ‘Rick’ DeWald, 89, of Providence Forge passed away on May 8, 2024, after a brief illness. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on November 23, 1934.
Rick spent his early years in Chicago, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. He served in the Army during the Korean War as part of a tank division stationed in Munich. After graduating from The College of William & Mary, he built a successful career as a manager and executive at IBM.
An avid golfer and sports fan, he lived in Ridgefield, Connecticut, for 29 years. Upon retirement, he moved to the Kilmarnock area and eventually settled in Providence Forge in 2019.
Charlotte Budding, his devoted partner, survives him.
He was predeceased by Sandra (Sandy) Pheris DeWald, his loving wife of 50 years.
He also is survived by his three daughters, Carey Jeffrey and husband Russ, Cris Walsh and husband Brendan and Cyndy Moyer and husband Mark; and one son, Richard DeWald Jr. and wife Amy. He was the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A private memorial is planned.
