RICHMOND—Richard Kendall Edwards, 80, passed away on August 14, 2025, in Richmond. Kendall was raised at “Riverview Farm,” the Edwards family home in Fleeton, later moving to Reedville and eventually Richmond to further his career.
Kendall is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Melissa E. Moorefield (Ross) and Aaron Wentworth Edwards (Elizabeth); and his grandchildren, Jacob, Lila and Ethan.
Kendall’s connection to the Reedville area remained strong throughout his lifetime. After moving to Richmond as an adult he returned often to visit his family and friends enjoying the hometown lifestyle. He was drawn to the rich history of his family that settled in the area generations ago and his childhood memories of growing up on Riverview Farm.
He maintained a very close relationship with his younger brother, Michael, and extended family and dearest friends, Tommy and Darla Williams, Nancy Rice, Virginia Booth, Victoria Steidel, their families, Franklin and Gini Wolf, Emery Lewis and Tommy Beatley. Kendall maintained his friendship in Richmond with his hometown friends and his roommate, Jim Marsh. Jim introduced Kendall to his future wife, Barbara.
Living by the rivers and Chesapeake Bay became a part of Kendall. He loved those softshell crabs and crab feasts! He learned by experience the fishing industry from his father, a fish boat captain, and enjoyed skin diving for relics. Later in life he visited maritime museums and collected books about the Chesapeake Bay and the history of old boats and ships.
His interest in boats continued with his first job in Richmond as a salesman, then vice president for Marine Development Corp., manufacturing and selling HVAC equipment to yacht builders and owners. He enjoyed the opportunity to travel to exciting ports throughout the world.
Kendall can now rest in peace, returning to Reedville.
Kendall’s graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 29, at Roseland Cemetery in Reedville. He will be buried in his family plot joining his deceased parents, Virginia Lipscomb Edwards and James W. Edwards Sr., and his two brothers, Michael Edwards and James “Jimmy” Edwards.
In lieu of flowers, Kendall’s family requests donations in his name to the Northumberland County Historical Society, PO Box 221, Heathsville, VA 22473. Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock is handling the service.
