Robert F. Murphy

Robert F. Murphy

IRVINGTON—Robert F. Murphy, 91, of Irvington peacefully passed away on July 31, 2024. Robert, fondly known as Bob, was born to Lawrence and Emily Murphy on July 6, 1933, in Buffalo, New York.

At the tender age of 16, he met Barbara (Babs) Easter. The couple married six years later following his graduation from Kenyon College, beginning an incredible 68-year journey through life together. After completing his service for the U.S. Air Force, Bob pursued his interest in sales and marketing, first at Procter & Gamble, and then for more than 30 years at John Deere.

Following his retirement, Bob and Babs moved to Kilmarnock where they pursued their many interests, including a joint love for sailing, a devout commitment to their faith (they were parishioners at Grace Church and Historic Christ Church for 29 years), a love of hosting friends for epicurean dinners and a joy for world traveling.

Bob is survived by his beloved family: his loving wife, Babs; as well as his loving daughter, Kathryn Norman (David); and his loving grandchildren, Elizabeth Norman (Eric Glaeser), Robert Norman (Amy), Teresa Norman (Laura Sabatino), Daniel Norman, Brittney Murphy and Chelcey Murphy (Joseph Hamilton); and four great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son, Robert J. Murphy.

A memorial service was held Saturday, August 10, at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury in Irvington. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made, in his name, to the American Brain Foundation, 201 Chicago Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55415.

Currie Funeral Home LLC of Kilmarnock handled the arrangements.
