The Rappahannock River Yacht Club (RRYC) on Saturday, May 6, held its Spring Regatta II.
A requirement for excellent sailboat racing is a great race committee (RC), reported Tom Chapman. Thankfully, RRYC Spring Regatta II PRO Hal Starke Jr. put together that kind of RC.
As the eight boats headed out to the racecourse on the Rappahannock, the forecast was not looking good. Light and variable winds were forecast, maybe even too light and unstable to get a race in at all. The first warning for the spinnaker fleet was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. but the wind was oscillating all over the place and sometimes non-existent. Starke patiently waited for the wind to pick up a little and settle into a reasonably consistent direction.
