Schlatters anticipate their 60th anniversary

Former Heathsville residents Rose Golden Schlatter and Joseph A. “Joe” Schlatter Jr., will observe their 60th wedding anniversary on July 30.

They were married in Rose’s hometown of Oxford, Ala., July 30, 1966. They met in college at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala.

Rose is a retired high school English teacher. Because of frequent moves for Joe’s military duties, Rose taught for 35 years, teaching English, speech and debate in public, private and parochial schools in Alabama, Virginia and Kansas; American schools in Taichung and Taipei, Taiwan; Chinese National University in Taichung, Taiwan; Koen and Yokota Air Base, Japan. Rose is a lyric soprano and was frequently a choir member and soloist.

Joe is a retired Army colonel who served from 1967 to 1995, including a tour of duty as an artillery officer in Vietnam, 1969-70. After transferring to the Army’s intelligence branch, Joe earned a master’s in international relations; studied Chinese at….
